It wasn’t easy at all.
It started when I was 16.
Instead of hanging out with my friends or going to the skate park…
I was running around huge city skyscrapers fixing the computer systems for some of Australia’s major banks.

I went to meet him for lunch one day… and I told him my problem.
“I’m working way too much, but I’m not making enough money.
I can’t scale. I just don’t see how I can grow this at all… what do I do?”
My mentor was a very smart guy.
And most importantly – he didn’t just give me answers.
He would teach me sound principles and let me figure things out for myself.
“Ben… do you understand the universal formula of business?”
“No. What is that?”.
Well, listen up.
Here’s what you need to understand:
“A Business Creates X Dollars of Value and Captures Y% of X.
X & Y are independent variables.”
When he first said this.
I was confused.
Why was this old man preaching Algebra to me?
I want to make money.
But then it hit me… like a ton of bricks.
And it changed everything.
If I wanted to make real money… I knew I had to start charging for the VALUE I provided.
Not for the time it took me to fix a computer.
Once I internalised this principle… and fully understood it.
